Grading is the sizing of the "base" or "master" pattern (the sample size) into a full size range via a mathematical process. For example, one of our clients uses size 6 as his sample size. After the new style is created, it is sampled. The sample is reviewed and any required changes for fit or style are completed and approved. This process produces what we call a "production pattern". Only then do we proceed with grading the pattern from size 4 to 14 to complete the size range for production.
We can grade CAD patterns that were developed either by us or by another pattern maker. We can also digitize hard paper patterns into the CAD system for grading. Patterns created by other pattern makers may need to be audited before grading.
We use standard grade rules, follow your grading specifications or develop grade rules specific to your product line. Newly developed grade rules are emailed or faxed to the customer for approval before proceeding with any grading. Our studio houses an extensive library of grade rules for all types of garments and target markets. Grading is done using OptiTex PDS software and is thoroughly checked for accuracy to maintain the integrity of the fit & style throughout the size range.
Once we are certain the graded pattern is accurate, we will plot a "nest" of all the graded pieces for your approval. This nest can be plotted onto soft paper or sent electronically via email.
Why make the transition to CAD-based patterns?
- accuracy is drastically improved
- fit and sizing is consistent throughout all related styles
- centralized pattern management is key to a quality program
- patterns and markers can be transferred via email, decreasing shipping costs and improving turnaround time
- last minute corrections can be addressed in a fraction of the time that is required for hard patterns
- CAD patterns can be adjusted for shrinkage in an instant and if you change fabrics, they can be adjusted again
- patterns and markers are archived on our system for future use
- computerized production markers optimize the layout of pattern pieces to minimize waste and maximize profits
We can also provide a plot of the graded pieces which can then be transferred onto hard paper (by us or you) as required in the leather industry or if you need manual markers.
Hard pattern sets are completed on 2X manilla and are labeled to your specifications. Included with each graded pattern is a header card with complete grading information and other pertinent information. For more information, view our Pricing Guide.
