Kitchen Décor

Summary
The original kitchen in this 1950's house was dark, dreary and hideous; however this full renovation yielded amazing results! The color palette was kept fairly neutral: natural maple cabinets, a dark porcelain tile floor (chosen to ground the room) and Giallo St. Cecelia granite for the countertops which, being the only pattern, becomes the focal point. The walls were painted a milk chocolate (Benjamin Moore Spanish Brown) and the backsplash is off-white subway tiles with a tan grout line. All the hardware is oil rubbed bronze which echoes the dark brown of the floor. There is lots of white trim (Benjamin Moore Cloud White) and the ceiling was tinted tan (Benjamin Moore Bradstreet Beige) to set off the crown molding.

A garden window was installed in the wall over the sink where there had previously been no window at all. This window faces east and lets in all the morning sun. A window on the south wall, that only faced the front entry porch, was closed-off to retain some wall space for cupboards. Stainless steel appliances were chosen and these great "Shinto" stools were chosen for the eating bar. The client has decided to go with a pale aqua for an accent color, introduced through her linens and tableware.
